🎨 How to color it

Use chunky crayons to make the skeleton bright white or light gray, the jack-o’-lantern pumpkin orange, the moon pale yellow, and the leafy tree green. Big spaces like the hills, sky, and pumpkin are perfect for loose scribbles or broad side-to-side coloring, and it is okay if little hands go over the lines. Try making each of the three stars a different color so the skeleton’s secret night feels extra twinkly.

That giant pumpkin grin beside the skeleton looks friendly, but its smile is hiding something only a close friend may hear. “Psst, I know where the tiny surprise is,” thought Benny, holding out both bony hands as if he were keeping the secret from floating away.

The surprise was tucked behind the pumpkin’s leafy stem. Can you find the big leaf curling on top of the jack-o’-lantern? Benny had hidden a tiny pretend moon-cookie there for the night birds, but the round moon in the sky kept peeking down and almost giving it away. “Shhh,” Benny whispered to the three stars. Can you point to the star closest to the moon? That one blinked back the quietest.

Then a soft rustle came from the tree on the right. One leaf wiggled, then another. Behind the fence, a little breeze was trying to sniff out the cookie. Benny spread his finger bones wide and smiled his biggest smile. “Not yet,” he whispered. First, the pumpkin had to laugh, the stars had to glow, and a friend had to find the hidden treat.
