🎨 How to color it

Color the architect’s blazer navy, the rolled blueprint pale blue, the measuring ruler golden yellow, and the modern house soft white with charcoal window frames. Use sharp colored pencils for the floor-plan rooms and balcony rails, then switch to markers for the wide walls, driveway, and garage door. Try a sunset reflection in the tall corner windows, fading from peach at the top to lavender near the lower panes.

The story behind this coloring page

The Room That Wasn’t Marked — At the quiet edge of the building site, Vera tapped her ruler against her boot and hunted for one missing wall length. Read the full story →

At the quiet edge of the building site, Vera tapped her ruler against her boot and hunted for one missing wall length. Without it, the new house would keep its hollow echo under the stairs. She left the clean shade of the porch, crossed the dusty driveway, and followed a thin tapping sound to the back hedge, where cement smelled sharp in the warm air.

A boy in a silver raincoat stood there, though the sky was dry. He held out a folded note sealed with a button. “No one asked me to bring it,” he said, and vanished behind the maple leaves. Inside was a child’s crooked plan: a tiny room labeled FOR QUIET, with a window for moonlight. Vera gave up her own lunch break, scraped her pencil down to a nub, and redrew the hallway.

By dusk, the hollow under the stairs had become a secret nook just big enough for a cushion and a book. Nobody cheered; nobody even knew yet. Vera rolled the plan carefully, smiling at the small new square where emptiness had been. If you peek at the blueprint, can you find the room that began as a thin tapping sound?
