🎨 How to color it

Layer coral red on the crab’s legs and claws, sea-glass teal in the scallop fans, pearl cream in the central teardrops, and sandy gold for the tiny bubbles. Use sharp colored pencils and work from the center dot outward so the narrow rays, shell ribs, and curling leg spirals stay crisp. For a polished twist, shade each matching pair of claws and legs in mirrored gradients, making the crab feel like a living tide mandala.

At twilight, Sorrel drew one small circle in the damp sand and called it a game: no moving until the tide answered. Foam hissed; salt cooled the joints of her claws. One by one, she filled the circle with fan marks, bubbles, and curling paths copied from shadows under the water. Nothing happened for so long that the moon seemed to hold its breath. Then the first wave slid over the game, and every mark rose, not from the sand but onto her shell, a quiet map for finding home in dark water. Ever since, patient crabs have carried the tide’s secret circle.
