The tiny cherries dangling from the cat’s collar look like a sweet accessory, yet one of them holds a secret. A soft chime rang when Juniper tilted her head, gentle as a spoon tapping a teacup. She sat very still in her round glasses while the hearts and stars around her seemed to wait. Tucked inside the left cherry charm was a folded note, no bigger than a petal. It had slipped there from the cardigan pocket with the checkerboard sleeve. Juniper opened it with one careful paw and found a sketch of the flower beside her, marked with a little star for later.
