Have you noticed the little bat with the tiny fangs just above his hat? Jasper the scarecrow had been watching that bat circle lower and lower, not with fear, but with the quiet feeling that the night had decided to speak. The bat landed on the brim of Jasper’s patched hat and introduced herself as Moonwhisker, keeper of the pumpkin patch’s moonlit wishes.
She asked Jasper to look carefully at the jack-o’-lanterns. Can you find the pumpkin with star-shaped eyes near the bottom left? That one wished to see the constellations. Can you spot the two corn stalks by Jasper’s boots? Their rustling told Moonwhisker where the wishes were hiding. Jasper lifted his own smiling pumpkin higher, and its carved grin glowed in answer to every face around him. Far behind the fields, the little barn seemed to listen, too, while the crescent moon leaned close enough to admire the vines curling across the ground.
