🎨 How to color it

Give the skeleton pirate’s coat deep navy, the skull-and-crossbones hat bright crimson, the island map sandy tan, and the treasure chest warm brown with golden coins. Use sharp colored pencils for the tiny pine trees, dotted trail, compass rose, and the pirate’s rib bones so the small details stay clear. Try shading the ocean marks pale blue while making the big X and the words “Treasure Cove” stand out in bold black or red.

The skeleton pirate’s pointing finger rests on the dotted trail, as if one more whisper from the map could tell him where to go next. A soft hush moved through the palms, and the open chest gave a tiny clink, like coins settling down for a nap.

Rook had followed loud maps before, the kind that shouted with thunder and flapped in storms. This map was different. It smelled faintly of sea salt and old paper, and it led him toward Treasure Cove with gentle curves past mountains, pine woods, and a little campfire shape. Can you find the compass rose near the lower right corner of the map? Rook was just tapping the trail beside it when someone cleared a very small throat.

From behind the chest latch peeked a silver hermit crab wearing a coin for a roof. “You are pointing too fast,” she said kindly. “Treasure likes a calm arrival.” Rook lowered his bony hand and smiled his toothiest smile. Together they counted the dotted steps, from the dark X up through the trees and around the hills. Can you spot the skull and crossbones on Rook’s hat? The crab said it looked brave, but his careful finger on the map looked braver. By the time the moon rose behind the palms, they had not moved one foot—yet they had found the quietest treasure on the island: a friend who knew exactly where to begin.
