Milo sprang up the grooved trunk, chasing a tiny acorn that had bounced into the branches. Halfway up, his back paw slipped on a narrow strip of bark, and the leaves rattled like applause. He froze for one whisker-twitch, then hooked his front claws into a notch and swung higher. With his ringed tail balancing behind him, Milo reached the branch, tapped the acorn free, and watched it drop neatly into the bushes below.
