🎨 How to color it

Color Elijah’s robe dusty tan, the altar stones warm gray, the flames golden orange, and the gathered people in soft earth tones. Use sharp colored pencils for the many robe folds, stone cracks, and narrow flame shapes, then fill the open hills with lighter side-strokes. Try making the smoke fade from pale gray at the fire to bluish lavender as it curls into the big clouds.

Each morning on the Carmel hillside, Boaz dared himself to stack six stones before the goat bell clanged twice. He liked the scrape of rock on rock, the dusty smell on his palms, and the secret thunk when a stone settled flat. “No wobble today,” he whispered, though he sometimes hid pebbles under the corners and called it clever.

One day Elijah asked for an altar, and Boaz scooted in first, grinning. He built fast—too fast. Because of that, the top stones leaned like sleepy camels; because of that, the wood rolled, and a little boy in the crowd snorted into his sleeve. Boaz’s ears burned hotter than the sun-baked ground.

So he pulled every sneaky pebble out and used his hands the slow way: turn, test, scrape, set. At last the ring held firm. Elijah lifted his arms, and fire cracked down with a roar that smelled of rain and sparks. If you trace the stones, you may spot the proudest one—the one Boaz set flat after the goat bell clanged twice.
