🎨 How to color it

Color the koala soft gray with a peachy nose, the big K sky blue, the smiling kite sunny yellow, and the eucalyptus leaves silvery green. Use chunky crayons or broad markers for the wide letter shapes, then switch to a sharper crayon tip for the little kite bows and leaf lines. Try making the cloud pale lavender so the yellow kite looks extra bright as it peeks out.

The story behind this coloring page

Under the eucalyptus trees, Kip patted the tall K sign and sang, “Kuh, kuh, kite!” The wind went whoo-whoo through the skinny leaves, and his paper kite bobbed above the puffy cloud like it was trying not to laugh. Kip wanted every branch, berry, and beetle to hear his biggest K-sound, so he gave the string a happy tug.

The kite dipped low. A tiny flap opened where nobody ever looked—right under its smiling fold. Out slid a curled note that smelled like gumdrops. Kip read, “Knock-knock! Who’s there? Koala. Koala who? Koala-lala, let’s all say K!” He laughed so hard the leaves shook, and soon the grove was chanting, “Kuh! Kuh! Kuh!” If you peek at the kite’s little face, you might catch the next joke before Kip does.
