🎨 How to color it

Color the Mexican flag green, white, and red, give the eagle emblem golden-brown touches, and shade the stepped pyramid sandy tan with a warm gray roof. Use broad crayons or markers on the big flag stripes and pyramid ramps, then switch to a sharp pencil for the tiny emblem and map outline. Try a pale blue sky behind the map so the country shape looks like a secret hovering over the temple.

At sunrise, Tavo climbed the temple plaza with a pebble in his pocket, tapping one step for each number. Tap, tap, tap—the stone felt cool, and the flag rope clicked in the breeze. He wanted to reach the top before the market bells rang.

Halfway up, a paper-thin whisper slid over his ear. “Count me too.” Above the roof floated a dark little outline, crinkly as a dried leaf and smelling faintly of rain. Tavo blinked. “Are you lost?” The shape dipped toward the flag, then toward the long stairs.

Tavo held up his pebble, and the outline settled in the sky like it had found its hook. Ever since, Mexico keeps that curious shape on maps, so no traveler forgets the temple that helped it stay. Next time you spot the floating outline, can you tell which edge whispered first?
