🎨 How to color it

Layer warm sandstone on Charles Bridge, terracotta red on the steep Prague rooftops, cool slate on the castle spires, and pale blue-gray on the Vltava River. Use a sharp pencil for the bridge bricks, statue bases, and tiny castle windows, then switch to broader, lighter strokes for the open water and sky. Try leaving the Czech map outline mostly white, with a faint gold glow around it so it feels like a secret key to the city.

The story behind this coloring page

Why Prague Keeps Its Shape — Before maps agreed on the country’s edges, Radomir crossed the Vltava before dawn with ink that smelled of iron and rain. Read the full story →

Before maps agreed on the country’s edges, Radomir crossed the Vltava before dawn with ink that smelled of iron and rain. He wanted one true border line, but every tower shadow bent his ruler. At the bridge’s quietest statue, a loose stone clicked under his thumb; inside the hollow hand lay a folded silver thread, humming like distant bells. He stretched it above the river, past roofs and spires, and it curled into a shape no ruler could force. From then on, Prague’s cartographers traced that wandering thread, and the country has kept its curious, breathing outline ever since.
