🎨 How to color it

Color the rescue boat bright orange and white, the lighthouse warm ivory with a red roof, the cliffs slate gray, and the heaving sea in layered teals and deep blues. Use sharp pencils for the narrow wave ribbons, window panes, railings, and rigging, turning the page as needed to keep each stained-glass section clean. Try a pale gold beam stretching from the lighthouse across the sky, so the cool water feels lit from one steady place.

The story behind this coloring page

The Current That Answered — Every evening, Oran steered the rescue boat along the same cliff channel, counting the buoy bells by sound: one bronze, one cracked, one almost sweet. Read the full story →

Every evening, Oran steered the rescue boat along the same cliff channel, counting the buoy bells by sound: one bronze, one cracked, one almost sweet. The routine fit his hands like worn rope. Until one day, at dusk, a stranger stood on the black rocks below the lighthouse and lifted a glass lantern that shone green instead of white.

Because of that, Oran turned from the safe line and felt the sea change under the hull, not angry, but intent, pushing with a cold shoulder. Because of that, the crew saw what the charts had missed: a person in the trough beyond the reef, one arm flashing pale between walls of water. The lantern keeper said only, “The current remembers.”

At last Oran brought the boat close enough for the line to land. Spray salted his lips; the engine throbbed like a second heart. When the rescued hand closed around the rope, Oran no longer counted bells. The green light, the steep water, the waiting cliff—all of it had been calling him to the place his hands already knew, one bronze, one cracked, one almost sweet.
