🎨 How to color it

Give the bat soft violet fur, the broom handle warm chestnut brown, the straw bristles golden tan, and the dangling spider inky black with silver eyes. Use sharp colored pencils for the broom’s wood grain, wing ribs, tiny star points, and the spider’s skinny legs, then fill the cloud banks with lighter side-strokes. Try a deep blue-to-purple night sky gradient behind the crescent moon so the bat’s violet wings feel bright and old-cartoon magical.

Under the squeaky moon, Dax tugged at the same stiff roost straw three times, trying to make a softer corner for the newborn bats before sunrise. The cave smelled of damp stone and sleep. He slipped out where the night wind combed his ears, chasing the rumor of a broom that swept clouds smooth.

The broom waited above the cloud tops, humming like a sleepy bee. Dax climbed on, but the handle was rough, and one splinter nicked his paw. “Worth it,” he whispered. A spider on a silk thread winked and pointed—not at the handle, not at the shining stars, but at the messy tail of bristles nobody ever checked.

Tucked inside was a secret bundle of cloud-fluff, tied with gold thread. Dax left half for the spider’s cold web and carried half home, softer than breath. By sunrise, the baby corner smelled faintly of moonlight, and if you trace the broom bristles with your eyes, you’ll know where Dax found the secret under the squeaky moon.
