🎨 How to color it

Color the skeleton’s bones soft ivory, the bow tie bright purple, the jack-o’-lantern orange, and the two bats smoky gray. Use broad crayon strokes for the big skull and pumpkin sections, then switch to a sharper pencil for the rib bones, fingers, and little stars. Try making the night sky pale blue around the moons so the white bones and tiny teeth stand out.

That raised bony hand is not just waving hello—it is signaling a secret to someone hiding above the fence.

“Quick, over here!” Benny the skeleton whispered, right in the busiest flutter of the night. A tiny bat had bumped into the crescent moon by mistake and was spinning in dizzy circles. Can you find the bat on the left, the one with wide wings near the big moon? That was Nib, and he had forgotten which way was home.

Benny tapped the smiling pumpkin with his dangling hand. “Don’t tell everyone,” he said, “but this jack-o’-lantern knows the path.” The pumpkin stuck out its tongue like an arrow pointing past the fence posts. Look for the little stars near the smaller moon; Benny asked them to twinkle one at a time, like stepping-stones in the sky. Then another bat swooped in from the right, squeaking, “I found him!”

The bare branches leaned closer, the leaves rustled, and Benny kept his hand high until Nib followed the starry trail. By the time both bats circled above his skull, Benny’s toothy grin was even bigger than the pumpkin’s.
