Right as the clock’s hands neared snack o’clock, Milo declared his grand challenge: stir the batter exactly twenty whisker-width circles without splashing the counter. He leaned over the huge bowl, paws gripping the rim, while the pot on the stove burped bubbles like it was laughing at him. Flour and sugar watched from their jars on the shelf. Circle seventeen went perfectly. Circle eighteen made a sneaky plop. By circle nineteen, Milo had a dot of batter on his nose and called it “chef’s confetti.”
