Every afternoon, Henry tapped the courtyard stones and counted the castle flags before the supper bell: “One, two, three!” The wind smelled like pine trees and chimney smoke, and his boots made clack-clack sounds. His challenge was to count without looking twice.

Until one day, a knight’s helmet in the grass said, “Four.” Henry jumped so hard his pencil flew into a bush. Because of that, he peeked under the helmet and found a tiny cricket wearing a thread cape. Because of THAT, the cricket demanded to be counted as a flag, since his cape flapped beautifully.

Henry laughed, counted “four,” and the supper bell bonged. Next time you see the helmet by the castle path, can you spot the mischievous flag captain hiding nearby?
