If she could flip one jellybean into the glass jar with a plink, she would earn a grand dot, just like the round moon spot on the wall. Big J watched from the flour sack, tall and quiet. Jovie bent her tail, ready to spring her last bean.

Then came a tiny scratch-scratch behind the cracker tin. A pantry beetle peeked out, sniffing the sugar smell. Jovie did not call Big J. She rolled her only jellybean into the dark. “For you,” she whispered. Plink! The jar glowed, and a round sweet spot floated up and settled over Jovie forever.
