🎨 How to color it

Try royal blue for the big uppercase D, cherry red for the lowercase d, silver gray for the snare drum rims, and golden yellow for the music notes and treble clefs. Use sharp colored pencils around the thin drum hardware, stick tips, and curling clef lines so the narrow spaces stay clean. Add a soft peach-to-lavender glow behind the floating notes to make the drumbeat feel like it is rising off the page.

The story behind this coloring page

Dorian’s Doorway Drum — Under the band room sink, Dorian kept a dented drum key on a blue string. Read the full story →

Under the band room sink, Dorian kept a dented drum key on a blue string. Before every practice, he tapped it twice against his snare—tik, tik—because it had belonged to his older cousin, the one who told him every room had a rhythm if you listened long enough. When the key slipped through a crack in the floorboards, the room seemed to swallow the last beat. Dorian lifted the loose board and climbed down into air that smelled of dust, brass polish, and rain-soaked wood.

The crawlspace led under the concert hall, where pipes hummed and old posters whispered against the walls. Dorian scraped his elbow, tore one shoelace, and nearly turned back when something answered from ahead: dum…dum…dee. His key hung from a nail beside a tiny door marked with a carved D. Behind it, forgotten music notes glimmered like moth wings. “You were keeping time for me,” Dorian whispered.

He came back with the key warm in his hand, but he did not tap alone anymore. At practice, his snare found the hidden dum…dum…dee, and the whole room settled around him like it had saved his place. Next time you see the drumsticks waiting above the drum, can you hear the twice-tapped key answering?
